41-year-old allegedly stabs man during altercation

The Craig Police Department arrested a 41-year-old Department of Corrections parolee Sunday night for allegedly stabbing a man during an altercation.

Police arrested Conny G. Mullis, Jr., on suspicion of second-degree assault, a felony, and he was booked into the Moffat County Jail.

Officers could not be reached for comment about Mullis’ past criminal history.

About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, police officers were called to 537 School St., on a report of the stabbing. Moffat County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted police at the address.

At the scene, officers found the victim, 40-year-old Brian J. Lewis, with a “severe wound” to his abdomen, the Police Department reported in a news release Monday.

An ambulance crew took Lewis to The Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and held overnight, police said.

Patient privacy laws prevented hospital officials from releasing information about Lewis’ condition Monday afternoon.

Investigating officers identified Mullis through victim and witness information, police reported. He was located a short time after the alleged assault was reported and arrested without incident.

An investigation into the Sunday night incident is ongoing, police said.
