Man extradited from Georgia to Elizabethton on theft charges

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. –

In August 2010 the Elizabethton Police Department began an investigation into multiple counts of theft which originated at a business located in Elizabethton.

Sammy Mullis, 51, was selling granite countertops out of a business located at 1742 West Elk Ave. The investigation revealed that Mullis did take money from at least three different customers for the purchase and installation of granite countertops. Mullis failed to provide the product or services. He left the area and could not be located after being featured in local television programs and newspaper articles.

Jim was born in Ocala, FL on July 19, 1924 to the late James Sr. and Bartha McBride. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and John McBride; sisters, Dorothy Moore and Betty Simpson.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:00P.M. The family will begin to receive friends at noon. Burial will follow with full military honors at Sharon Memorial Park.

Police: Man cuts, threatens Salisbury bartender

SALISBURY — A Richfield man was arrested Thursday after officers said he attempted to kill a bartender with a box cutter.

According to Salisbury Police, 48-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Mullis approached Benchwarmer’s bartender Doug Lyerly as he was exiting the pub’s bathroom.

Mullis began threatening Lyerly, the report said, and as Lyerly attempted to go around Mullis, Lyerly realized Mullis had cut him in the leg with a blue box cutter.

MARSHALL – A memorial service for Valora Olsen, 93, of Marshall will be held at a later date.

She died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at the Minneota Manor Nursing Home.

She was born March 4, 1918, in Lyon County to Clarence and Junia (Mullis) Giles. She lived in the country near Balaton. She received her education in country schools, Balaton Public and Marshall Public Schools. On Oct. 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Olsen. They made their home in Balaton, Tracy and Marshall.

Lakeland man shot and killed

Lakeland — Wayne Mullis woke up to a sound no one wants to hear. “Around 5:15 AM I heard three gun shots. It was a bam, bam. Waited a couple of seconds and another shot, bam.”

One of those bullets hit 49-year-old Robert Lee Williams in the chest and killed him as he was riding his bicycle on 6th Street. Officers say that Williams was shot at intersection of 6th Street and Talley Avenue as he rode his bike.
