Mullis, Janie

MOUNT HOLLY

- Janie Dorlaska Waldroup Mullis (Dolly), left her earthly home to join family and friends on February 1, 2010. Dolly was residing at Carillon Assisted Living at the time of her death. She was born in Mount Holly, NC, April 1, 1923 to Jim and Minnie Queen Waldroup and was the youngest of seven children.

She attended school in Mount Holly and graduated from High school there. She was an excellent student and an accomplished basketball guard. Dolly worked off and on in the textile industry and retired from the American Efird Mill. In her intermediate years, she worked in the school cafeteria. Her favorite job was as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She was \"retired\" from that position when the dial phone system came to Mount Holly in 1955. Dolly loved flowers and loved working in her yard. It was often a spring Showcase of dogwood, azaleas and iris. She was a talented seamstress, and has left many examples of her crochet and cross-stitch talents. She loved to sing especially with the \"Joy Choir\" for seniors at the First Baptist Church. She loved the early Sunday morning hymn singing led by Dickie Hipps. She served in the VFW Auxiliary for years giving service to the com-munity and our nation\'s veterans along with her husband. She delivered Meals on Wheels and proudly exercised her civic right and duty by voting.

Dolly married Corchel C. \"Bud\" Mullis November 30, 1945. They were married 52 years. She was preceeded in death by three brothers; Ernest, Osco, and Verle Waldroup and two sisters; Carrie Morris and Margie Christenbury.

Dolly is survived by her three children and their spouses; Wanda and Dennis Workman of Arden, NC; Nancy and David Wrenn of Stanley, NC; and Tim and Martha Mullis of Gastonia, NC. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Amiee Smith, Kelly Workman, Greg Workman, Lindsay Vaughn, Chris Wrenn, Angie Hilderbran and Anna Mullis. There are 12 great-grandchildren, Mycah Fraser, Donovan Workman, Andrew Smith, Tyler Workman, Markaylee Workman, Evan Workman, Jordan Workman, Audrey Vaughn, Katie Vaughn, Emma Vaughn, Carter Hilderbran, and MacKenzie Wrenn. 2 step grandchildren, Kendall and Katie James. She has 1 great great-grandchild Will Fraser, who represented the 5th living generation of her family at the time of his birth in 2009. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Lucille Hoyle of Dallas, NC. Dolly loved her family, her home and her church.

She loved Mount Holly where she was born and lived her entire life. She couldn't understand why anyone would want to leave it. She will be missed by many and remembered fondly by all who knew her, especially by children. We will miss our DollyMama, but we are assured she is surrounded by loved ones and is happy today.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mullis will be held 2 p.m. Thursday February 4, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Reveredn Kendall Cameron and Reverend Brian Childers officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 at the First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, 300 S. Main St., Mount Holly, NC 28120. Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly is serving the family of Mrs. Mullis.

Condolence messages may be sent to the family at www.woodlawnfuneral.com.

Why This Site?

This site started around 2003 and has taken on various transformations. It was previously named the Mullis Melange. I have finally settled on MullisFamily.org with the hopes to incorporate as a non profit at a later date.
