Benjamin L. Braddy, Sr., 96, died Monday, Jan. 12 under hospice care in Savannah. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at West View Cemetery with grandson, the Rev. Alan W. Peacock, officiating.


Benny was born March 25, 1912, in Dublin. He was a corporal in the Georgia State Defense Corp during World War II. He retired in 1977 from the Georgia Power Company after 40 years of service. Benjamin Braddy was active in Knights Templar, Al Sihah Temple of Savannah and Milledgeville. He also was a member for many years of First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville.


He was preceded in death by wives, Estoria Mullis Braddy, Julia Coleman Braddy and Katie Long Braddy. Benjamin Braddy moved to Savannah in 1997 to reconnect with a life-long friend, Norma Newton.


He is survived by his sister, Frances B. Parkinson of Brunswick; his three children, Charlotte B. Warren (Roger) of Florida, Scheryle Braddy of Savannah, and Ben L. Braddy Jr. of Wrightsville and Holley Long of Macon. Surviving grandchildren include Dr. Alan Warren (Karen) of New York, Cathy Charles (Steve) of New York, Diane Bosworth (Mark) of North Carolina, Brandy Sohaski (Garry) of Macon, the Rev. Alan Peacock (Karen) of Florida, and Christie De Villing of Florida, Steve Long (Nancy) of Florida, Cherie Boston of Macon and Nancy McDade (Lynn) of Lawrenceville. Ben is survived by 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
