William “Billy” Edward Watkins, 81, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011.

Billy was born November 29, 1930, in Union County, NC, son of the late Lonnie Baxter and Margaret Elma Hargett Watkins, he is also preceded in death by a son Edward “Eddie” Watkins.

Funeral services will be held 2 :00 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Gordon Funeral Chapel, burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Betty Mullis Watkins, a daughter Elizabeth “Lib” Watkins of Charlotte, a brother Richard Watkins of St. Petersburg, Fl., a sister Irene Price of Indian Trail, a grandson Derek Watkins and two great grandchildren Derek Watkins, Jr. and Katey Watkins.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service & Crematory 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.

King, NC: John C. “Chris” Mullis, 48, died Saturday January 14, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Rev. David Miller will officiate.

Mr. Mullis, a native of Ft. Valley, was a member of the Hawkinsville Masonic Lodge # 9. He had also served in the National Guard and worked for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco.

Survivors include his wife Sarah Suzanne Mullis of King, NC. Children: Daniel Christopher Mullis, and his fiancee Cheryl, Stephen Andrew Mullis all of Hawkinsville. Mother: Virginia Webb of Ft. Valley. Father and step-mother: John Edward and Betsy Mullis of Centerville. Siblings: Donald Edward Mullis of Ft. Valley, Alan Mark Mullis of Greensborough, NC, Patricia Elizabeth Farr of Kathleen.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Barbara Faye Bailey
1942 – 2011

Barbara Faye Bailey, age 69, of Stockbridge, GA died Monday, November 14, 2011. She was born in Dexter, GA to the late Joseph and Winnie Hobbs Mullis. Barbara was employed in the dry cleaning business for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Moore; a son, Joey Smith of Stockbridge, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Eddie Hill of Barnesville, GA; step-children, Denise Nelson and Butch Moore,both of Fernandina Beach, FL; a sister, Iris Dockery of Stockbridge, GA; grandchildren, Jessie Faye Hill, Tony Hill, Cody Hill, J. J. Smith, and Matthew Eugene Smith; step-grandchildren, Michael Moore and Dale Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husbands, Eustace Eugene Smith and David Andrew Bailey; a sister, Helen Lyons; and a brother, Travis Mullis.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Chaplain Don Daly officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 1:00 until 1:45 PM Saturday prior to the service. Flowers are optional. Cecil Clyde Mullis, age 88, of Shasta Lane, SW, Lenoir, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. He was born January 31, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Steve and Myrtle Roark Mullis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Pauline Mullis; a son, Charles Ronnie Mullis; five brothers; and five sisters.

Mr. Mullis was retired from Broyhill Furniture Industries and was a member of Lenoir Seventh Adventist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Anita M. Pritchard and husband Terry of Lenoir; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Judy Mullis; three grandchildren, Charles Pritchard of New Mexico, Todd Mullis of Charlotte and Adam Mullis of Lenoir.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Clifton Harmon.

Sarah Hildia Culp Deese, 81, of Southport died July 22.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1926, in Pineville, a daughter of the late Harson and Pearly Mae Mullis Privette.

She is survived by five sons, William Culp and wife Lisa, Richard Culp and wife Shirleen, Thomas M. Culp and wife Jenny, John Deese and wife Corliss, and Grady Deese and wife Diane; four daughters, Carolyn McKellar and husband Ronnie, Libby Hughes and husband George, Mary Jane Hewett, Sara Mae Gordon and husband George; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services at the Northwood Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Rice officiating.

1272918Donald Mullis CONCORD Donald Richard Mullis, 79, of 4206 Flowes Store Road, Concord, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1931, in Cabarrus County to the late George Washington and Callie Mae Herrin Mullis. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Mullis, and his sister, Maxine Plummer.

Mr. Mullis worked for Cannon Mills and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. The family meeting place will be at the home.

A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord today, Friday, Sept. 30, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 5340 Flowes Store Road, Concord, on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. following a 30-minute state, with Pastor Jimmy Hall and Rev. Farrell Shimpock officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Barbee Mullis, of the home; his daughters, Rhonda Long, of Stanfield; Beverly Mantooth, and Donna M. Campbell, both of Concord; his grandchildren, Beverly Plummer, Brandi Mantooth, Brandon Mantooth, Robin Morgan, Barbi Ortz, Kevin Broome, and Jonnet Campbell; his four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Kenneth Mullis, of Concord, and Bill Mullis of Fayetteville.
