Ray J. Mullis, 81, formerly of 1365 Ebinport Road, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. Mr. Mullis had resided at Westminster Towers for the last 6 years.

A native of Monroe, NC, Mr. Mullis was born February 3, 1930 son of the late Dewey F. and Virgie Mae Polk Mullis.

He was a self-employed contractor and Merchant Seaman. Mr. Mullis was a US Marine veteran and member of First Baptist Church Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Doris Griffin Mullis.

Surviving are his daughter Sherry Ward and her husband Will of Rock Hill; a son Rocky Mullis and his wife Carol of Hilton Head, SC; a sister Ada Mae Hunter of Huntersville; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Mullis will be held Friday at 3:00pm in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Hogg officiating.

Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on S. Cherry Road. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until the hour of service on Friday and other times at the home of his daughter 4525 Dublin Ct. in Rock Hill. Mrs. Spencer, 78, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away on Nov. 27, 2011.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1933, in Mecklenburg County, NC, to Henry Walker and Blondell Earp Mullis.

Hazel was a life-long resident of Mint Hill.

She worked as a machinist at Atlantic Envelope Company off Monroe Road in Charlotte for thirty-three years.

She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Mint Hill.

Mrs. Spencer’s life centered around her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her church.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur, Mint Hill, NC; three children, Jimmy (Patricia Dulin) Carpenter, Matthews, NC; Rusty (Amanda) Carpenter , Mint Hill; and Sherry Carpenter Bunch, Matthews, NC; five grandchildren, Scott, Billy, and Jeff Carpenter, Joya Cain, and Jonathan Carpenter; and seven great grandchildren.

Her family will receive friends on Wed., Nov. 30, 2011, from 1-2 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill, followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. Reverend Joe Mullis and Reverend Bill Saylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery in Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James Carpenter; her brother, Herman Mullis; and her sister, Helen Heyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Hazel’s memory be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 6335 Wilson Grove Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227-4229, or to the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Dept., 8313 Fairview Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227.

Warner Robins, GA: James Lloyd Mullis, Sr., 72, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005. Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with entombment in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Mullis was born in Tifton, GA to the late Eli and Lois Adams Mullis. He was the owner and operator of Mullis Barber Shop in Warner Robins for many years. Mr. Mullis was a mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife Faye Mullis of Warner Robins, sons Jim (Angie) Mullis and Danny (Dawn) Mullis all of Warner Robins, grandchildren Chris Mullis, Alicia Mullis Salley, Michael Mullis, Mari Mullis, Morgan Mullis and Cheryl Mullis, one great grandchild Elonna DeLong.

Warner Robins, GA: James M. Scarborough, 84, passed away Friday, December 22, 2006.

Services will be at 2 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 PM until service time at 2 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Scarborough was born in Dodge County, GA to the late Arnold Patrick and Annie Nora Mullis Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife on 50 years, Hilda Evelyn Tripp Scarborough and a daughter Sandra Kay Scarborough Danielly.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins and a ordained deacon of the Baptist faith. He served his country proudly and received a Purple Heart while fighting during W.W. II in the U.S. Army. Mr. Scarborough had a love for flying. He was an pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Mt. Hope, #9 in Hawkinsville and was retired from Robins Air Force Base as an Electronic Manager.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Trott Scarborough of Warner Robins, son James Michael Scarborough (Sharon) of Warner Robins, daughters Cathy Scarborough Barker (Bobby) of Byron, Lorrie Scarborough Nix (Bobby) of Buford, son-in-law Jerry Danielly of Social Circle, step children Lorna Trott Beavers of Warner Robins, Amy Trott St.- Amand of Canada, Mark Trott of IL., sister Sarah Hardin of Cochran, brothers Aaron Scarborough of Cochran, A.P. Scarborough of Milledgeville, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, many neices, nephews and sisters & brothers-in-laws.

Warner Robins, GA: Mrs. Shirley Ann Mullis, 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 in Macon, GA.

Visitation will be held at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, 4th December 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, 5th, December 2011 at 10:00 AM in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens .

Shirley was born to the late Mr. Ezra and Bertha Kelley in Five Points, AL.

She was predeceased by her husband Rocky Mullis.

Shirley was retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. Shirley was of the Baptist faith and she was a past member of the Moose Club in Warner Robins. Shirley will be sadly missed by all of her friends and family.

Survivors include her Sons Randy and Lance Mullis, Sister, Helen Kelley, Brothers, Herschel, Sherman, Aubrey, Dwain and Danny Kelley. Also surviving are Grandchildren; Jeremy, Jason, Daniel and Christopher Mullis and one Great Grandchild Alexandria Mullis.

James Blair Mullis Sr.
September 3, 1935 – November 1, 2011

James Blair Mullis, Sr., 76, of Stanley, formerly of the Thomasboro Community, died November 1, 2011 at the Brian Center in Lincolnton, NC.

He was the son of the late Arthur F. Mullis and Annie Harrington Mullis. He retired as a driver from ADM Trucking Company in 1992. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a loyal friend who loved everyone and never met a stranger. He was known by family members as a sports “nut”.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Linda Owens Mullis, son, James B. Mullis , Jr. and wife, Susan; daughters, Debbie Mullis, Pam Mullis, Pat Mullis and Wendy Mullis; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brothers, Harry Mullis, Mike Mullis and Roger Mullis; sister, Frances Dross.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Ronald Mullis.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church where he was a member. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 3rd with Reverend David Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Deborah Allison Sasser, age 32, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2011 surrounded by her family at home. She was the daughter of Dr. Lynn Sasser and Deborah Mullis Sasser.

Allison was a 1997 graduate of Western Alamance High School and attended UNC Wilmington. She was a member of United Love Baptist Church in Midland, NC. Allison received a liver transplant during her senior year of high school and her life was blessed with a new lease on life. She loved animals and was especially fond of her cats. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and is a testament of God’s grace.

Allison is survived by her parents, Dr. Lynn Sasser and Deborah M. Sasser of Gibsonville; sister, Amy Davis and her husband, Jimmie of Burlington and a brother, Michael Sasser of Haw River; nephew, Jaxton Davis of Burlington and her fiancé, Bryan Nealey of Chinquapin; maternal grandmother, Daris Mullis of Concord. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Melvin Mullis and paternal grandparents, Marvin and Frances Sasser.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at United Love Baptist Church located at 11487 Flowes Store Road in Midland and the family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Alamance Memorial Park and other times the family will be at her parents home.

Jean (Murray) Hood, 86, Kokomo, passed away at 9:35 A.M. on October 20, 2011 in the Emergency Room at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born in Kokomo on July 5, 1925 to the late Virgil and Pauline (Wilson) Mullis. Jean married Russell Hood on January 22, 1946, and he preceded her in death in December of 1990. Jean owned and operated Jean’s Beauty Salon, worked in both the Treasures and Assessors offices, and was a member of; the Eastern Star, Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Suzanne (William) Beaver, two grandsons, James (Teresa) Beaver, Kokomo, Chad Beaver, California; great grandchildren, Cody (Samantha) Beaver, Cassandra Beaver, Zachary Beaver, Hannah Beaver, Daniel (Rebecca) Miller and Anthony Brandl. Other Survivors include great-great grandchildren, Chelsea, Damien and Caiden, along with Jean’s lunch lady friends, whom she was very grateful for, and her precious cat, Baby.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Hood; and a son, Laddie Charles Hood.

There will be a memorial service for Jean held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 602 West Superior Street, Kokomo, IN 46901on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 1:00 P.M.. Father Richard Lightsey will officiate the services. Entombment in the St. Andrews Columbarium will immediately follow the service. Memorial contributions can be made in Jean’s memory to the Kokomo Humane Society.
