Miss Rita Lanell Kiker, age 57, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Rita Kiker will be conducted at 6:00 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Davis Funeral Chapel, officiated by Reverend Phil McLean.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM Tuesday evening, prior to the ceremony at Davis Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Kiker was born on December 1, 1955, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Olin Kiker and Betty Jo Mullis Kiker. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Olivia Watts.

She was a knitting machine operator.

Survivors include three daughters, Amanda Tarlton of Monroe, Felicia Kiker of Monroe and Deshawna Kiker of Monroe; two brothers, Bradley Kiker of Monroe and Lane Kiker of Monroe; and a sister, Myra Womack of Lynn Haven, Florida. There are 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. Glenda Denise Mullis, age 50 of Macon, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Glenda was born April 15, 1961 in Dalton, GA, a daughter of the late Therman Grooms and Ruby Chastain Gowin.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Keith Mullis of Macon, GA; son, Brian Keith Mullis of Macon, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Ben Houston of Gordon, GA, Sandra Mullis and Enrique Trevino of Dalton, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, David Grooms of Dalton, GA, Tommy and Tracy Grooms of Calhoun, GA, Mike Gowin of Dalton, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Charles Tinsley of Villanow, GA, Linda and Butch Willis, Kathy and Billy Cole, Rika and Brooks Ford all of Dalton, GA; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Glenda Denise Mullis will be held Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 12:00 noon from the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with David Grooms, Tommy Grooms, Charles Tinsley, Joel Mullis, Frank Mullis, Jason Blalock, Warner Hendricks, and Adam Wiley serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday.

Ellen G. ‘Tootie’ Emmons

July 4, 1940 — May 22, 2009

Ellen G. “Tootie” Emmons of Bloomington passed away at Garden Villa Health Care Center on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the age of 68.

Ellen was born to Charles Smith and Ester (Mullis) Smith on July 4, 1940, in Bloomington. She worked at RCA and also at Sarkes-Tarzian, but mostly was a homemaker taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ester Smith; son, Samuel Ray Littell and infant daughter Tina Littell.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Tammy Swafford of Bloomington and Debbie Bannister of North Vernon; father, Charles Smith of Bloomington; siblings, Paul Jack Swafford of Bedford, Dennis Swafford of Greene County, Connie Robison (Dan) of Bedford, Bonnie Halton (Mike) of Spencer, Phillip Smith (Jody) of Ellettsville, Gary Smith (Carolyn) of Bloomington, and Teresa Deppe (Tim) of Bloomington; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Burial is to follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Ronald Max “Ronnie” Mullis, 72, of 115 Ervin Avenue Concord passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord.

He was born on December 14, 1938 in Henry County Virginia to the late James Ticen and Mary Ruth Spears Mullis. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jimmie Mullis.

Mr. Mullis was a truck mechanic. He served in the US Navy.

The family meeting place will be at the home 115 Ervin Avenue Concord.

A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 12 until 2 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM in the chapel, with Rev. Merrill Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Smith Mullis of the home; son, Lionel “Eric” Mullis and wife Cherry of Concord; grandchildren, Jason Mullis and Lesli Mullis both of Concord; sister, Barbara Joanne Mullis Furr of Concord; a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Ann Street United Methodist Church 335 Ann Street NW Concord, NC 28025.

Mr. Crawford “Pete” Mullis Jr, 61, of Poplar Tent Road, Concord died on April 11, 2010 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.

The family received friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis on Tuesday(April 13, 2010) from 6:00-8:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Kerr Memorial Baptist Church at 25 Hwy 49 South, Concord on Wednesday (April 14, 2010) at 12:00pm.

The memorial service will be led by Dr. Stanley Spence, Rev. John Setchfield and Rev Brad Jones.

Pete was born in Cabarrus County on October 31, 1948, a son of Isabel Mullis and the late Crawford Mullis Sr.

He is survived by his wife Sherry Hartsell Mullis of Concord, mother Isabel Mullis of Concord, son Kevin and wife Amber Mullis, one grandchild Landon Mullis all of Concord, and sister Linda and husband Joe Harris of Harrisburg. He also survived by niece Kristen Harris, nephew Kelby and wife Stacy Harris and their two children Hayley and Carley Jo Harris all of Harrisburg.

Pete served in the US Army from May 1968 and was honorably discharged May 1971. Pete and Sherry were happily married for 40 years. He was an active member of Kerr Memorial Baptist Church and the Harold Mullis Sunday school class. Pete enjoyed spending summers by the pool, grilling with family and friends; also enjoyed riding his grandson on the tractor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends but we feel he is in a better place, looking down on us all.
