My First Memory

My First Memory
(Essay)
by: D. S. Mullis

I don’t remember being born…I don’t remember being carried to an old lady’s house out in the country, out from Augusta, Georgia, before I was eighteen months old.  I don’t remember having infantigo.  I don’t remember the first time I saw my mama and daddy who adopted me, nor smelling my adopted daddy’s cigar smoke for the first time.  I don’t remember eating my first ice cream cone, which was given to me the day they adopted me.  I don’t remember the first time my mama and daddy kissed me and held me close to them as their own little girl now.

Gator Chomp is hitting the road.

doc4a948545a2b46105355386Mike Mullis, co-writer of the original Gator Chomp song, has revised the lyrics to include Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer. He is offering three versions — radio edit, dance mix and extended version — on a new CD that is available by mail.

Mullis debuted the new version on Saturday during the Gator Chomp Romp at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park.

“It went really well,” Mullis said of the Gator Chomp Romp. “We camped out and everybody was cooking. Seven different bands showed up and there were fireworks afterwards. We tried to make it really entertaining and look forward to doing it next year.”

Mullis played with his band WhooWhee at the Romp, and said they have a couple of dates coming up. There also was a YouTube “Are You ready for the Gators?,” which will be online this week.

Mullis has begun a Gator Chomp Statewide Radio Tour of stations to promote the CD.

“We kicked it off Monday at Power Country and I was at the ‘X’ today,” Mullis said. “We will hit Gainesville next week and Jacksonville the week after. We will go right on down the state and it will run to the end of the year.”

Gator Chomp CDs, MP3s and ringtones can be ordered at dothegatorchomp.com. Autograph requests can be sent with the money order and Mullis will accommodate.

“We are one big family in the Gator Nation, so I am trying to make it more personal,” Mullis said.

Mullis said he is sharing a portion of the proceeds with Haven Hospice, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Guardian Ad Litem and Pet Rescue.

“It is my way of trying to help bring awareness,” Mullis said. “These are great organizations and they are doing great services.”

susanmullisDENTON | More than 15 years ago, Ann Huss took her son to the Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion. Now it’s her granddaughters’ turn to see steam engines, border collies chasing sheep and a tractor parade.

“We want them to experience and see the old equipment,” said Huss, who’s from Lincolnton. “Without our guidance this history would be lost.”

Cynthia Mullis, "Inside Job"

Saxophonist Cynthia Mullis releases her debut recording on OA2
Records entitled ‘Inside Job’ featuring the outstanding Northwest
rhythm section of Chris Spencer on guitar, Doug Miller on bass, and
Steve Korn on drums. Rounding out the ensemble is Jeff Hay on trombone
and Becca Duran on vocals. The CD features imaginative arrangements of
jazz standards by Thelonious Monk , Billy Strayhorn and Dexter Gordon,
as well as originals by Cynthia and Doug. Inspired by her experience in
New York City and recorded in Seattle, the music is introspective yet
upbeat and straight-ahead. The chemistry of the group is organic,
creative, and exciting, and the musicianship is top-notch.

Bill Mullis

September 11, 2007 in Music / Art

Rev. Mullis played guitar and sang most all his life in clubs and
bars in the southeast, until Jesus Christ entered in and changed his
tune. Now with burning desire he travels and ministers in song to all
the hearts open and needing to experience what love the Lord allows him
to share.

Why this name?
I only play with a group when the financies are availible. Most all the time however, it’s a one man performance.
