Waggoners to celebrate 50th

Larry and Patsy Waggoner of Lyons (right) will celebrate 50 years of marriage on April 21, 2011.

Their children would like all friends and family to join them for an open house on Sunday, April 17 from 2-5 p.m. at the Lyons Community Building.

Patsy (Mullis) and Larry were married April 21, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Lyons with the Rev. Robert Richards officiating.

Some Columbia adults find their mates while enjoying kickball

 Who knew? Kickball, a game that for decades was forgotten after grade school, turns out to be an ideal means for adults to find a mate.

 At least that’s the experience for the Grasskickers of the Columbia kickball league. In six years, four couples have married after first meeting at Grasskicker games or practices. The littlest Grasskicker, 19-month-old Vann Mullis, is the progeny of one of those marriages.

Velma Mullis Simpson celebrated her 101st birthday

Velma Mullis Simpson celebrated her 101st birthday on Feb. 19.

“It feels like a dream,” she said.

“I do not feel like I can possibly be 101 years old.”

A birthday party given by Kaleen and Tommy Shaver was held at Kaleen’s Beauty Shop on County Line Road just outside Locust on Feb. 11.

their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday.

Mr. Mullis, son of Flora M. Mullis, Watertown, and the late
Loyde J. Mullis, and Mary Jean Backus, daughter of Leman R. and
Gerene M. Backus, Watertown, were married June 17, 1983, in Lawton,
Okla., with District Judge William Roberts officiating.
